Autism Evaluations in Pensacola, Florida

autism evaluation in pensacola florida and alabama with the ADOS-2 evaluation

If you are looking for an autism evaluation in Pensacola, you are not alone. Many families and adults begin searching for answers when they notice differences in communication, sensory processing, social interaction, or developmental patterns that have never fully been explained.

At Hello Calm Therapy, I provide autism evaluations for children, teens, and adults ages 18 months and older using a thoughtful and supportive process. Evaluations include the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) along with additional screening tools that help create a clear understanding of strengths, challenges, and developmental patterns.

The goal of an autism evaluation is not simply to provide a label. Instead, it helps provide clarity, validation, and guidance for next steps so individuals and families can better understand how the brain processes the world.

Clients often travel from Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Pace, Milton, Navarre, and surrounding areas of Northwest Florida for autism evaluations. Parts of the evaluation process can be completed virtually, while the ADOS-2 assessment is completed in person at the Pensacola office.

If you have been searching for autism testing in Pensacola or wondering whether an evaluation may be helpful, the first step is scheduling an intake appointment where we review history, concerns, and goals for the evaluation.

Signs an Autism Evaluation May Be Helpful

Families and adults often begin considering an evaluation when they notice patterns such as:

• delayed or different communication patterns
• sensory sensitivities or strong reactions to sensory input
• difficulty with transitions or changes in routine
• intense interests or repetitive behaviors
• social communication differences
• feeling different from peers or experiencing long-term social confusion

For adults, common experiences may include masking, social burnout, sensory overwhelm, or a lifelong feeling of not fully understanding social expectations.

What to Expect During the Evaluation Process

The evaluation process includes three appointments designed to provide a clear understanding of developmental history, current concerns, and assessment findings.

1. Intake Appointment
During the intake session we review developmental history, current concerns, and background information.

2. ADOS-2 Assessment (In Office)
The ADOS-2 is an observational assessment that evaluates communication, social interaction, and behavior patterns associated with autism.

3. Results Appointment
During the final appointment we review the results together and discuss recommendations and next steps.

Autism Evaluations for Children and Adults

Autism evaluations are available for individuals 18 months and older, including:

• toddlers and young children
• school-age children
• teenagers
• adults seeking clarification or late diagnosis

Many adults pursue an evaluation after recognizing patterns such as masking, burnout, sensory sensitivities, or long-standing social confusion.

Who the Evaluation Is For

The ADOS-2 is the core observational assessment used during the evaluation. Depending on age and concerns, additional screening tools may include:

CARS-2 (Childhood Autism Rating Scale)
SRS-2 (Social Responsiveness Scale)
M-CHAT-R/F (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers)
ASQ-3 (Ages & Stages Questionnaire)
ASQ-SE (Ages & Stages Social Emotional)
Sensory Processing Checklists
Adult autism screening tools, including measures used to assess autism traits in adults and masked presentations

These tools help provide a more complete understanding when combined with clinical observation and developmental history.

Assessments Used in the Autism Evaluation

The Process

Your autism evaluation includes three sessions, all 60 minutes or less

1

Intake

We'll begin by getting to know you or your child and exploring current symptoms, concerns, and history. You’ll also receive questionnaires (such as the Vineland-3, SRS-2, and CARS-2) to complete at home before the next appointment.

2

Evaluations

The ADOS-2 assessment will be conducted in-office. For younger children, age-appropriate versions and additional tools like the M-CHAT or ASQ may be used. Please return the completed forms during this session.

3

Results

We’ll meet to review findings and discuss next steps. You'll receive a written diagnostic report (within 2 weeks) to share with your doctor or care team. We'll also explore therapy options, school resources, or support services.
